Ninaithale Inikkum: The name still spells magic

Movies with friendship as the theme have invariably done well. K. Balachander's musical delight Ninaithale Inikkum is still fresh in our memories. Director Kumaravelan (son of well known film-maker G.N. Rangarajan) has now used the same title for the Tamil version of the Malayalam hit Classmates. Of course, he obtained permission from KB to retain the title and was also blessed with a good-luck message.

Promising that the plot differs from that of the original, Kumaravelan feels Tamil audiences would not relate to the communism factor which was the cornerstone of the original. It was a daunting task to convince lead actor Prithviraj (hero of Classmates) to accept the modified version. Priyamani was given the task of reprising the role of Kavya Madhavan, said the director, pleased how the movie has shaped up.

What about the songs? The Tamil version will pale in comparison to the original, but in quality, it will hold its own,he says.

Aazeek
