Prithviraj Sukumaran will star along with Arjun Kapoor in Aurangzeb

Reportedly, Prithviraj Sukumaran will star along with Arjun Kapoor in Aurangzeb, a film directed by Atul Sabharwal. The film starts shooting in August and will be released next year.

The rumours doing the rounds about Prithviraj Sukumaran's pair for the flick. Prithviraj Sukumaran is not playing the second fiddle to Arjun Kapoor in Aurangazeb. They will be the main leads and They will be seen in substantial roles.

Prithviraj Sukumaran confirms, "Yes, I am doing a film for Aditya Chopra. It is titled Aurangazeb. The film also stars Arjun Kapoor."

Arjun Kapoor says, "Yes, I am doing the film." Paired opposite Arjun Kapoor is veteran actor Shakti Kapoor's daughter Shraddha Kapoor. Shraddha Kapoor made her acting debut with Love Ka The End.

All thanks Rani Mukerji. It seems the actress was so impressed with Prithviraj Sukumaran that she put in a good word for him with Aditya Chopra.

First Look: Revathy, Prithviraj in Molly Aunty

Revathy and Prithviraj play the lead in director Ranjith Sankar's forthcoming film, Molly Aunty Rocks, the shooting of which will start soon. According to the director, the film narrates the story of a powerful young man and a special, middle-aged woman.

Produced by the scenarist-director himself under his own banner, Dreams N' Beyond and distributed by Prithviraj's August Cinema, the cast also includes Lalu Alex, KPAC Lalitha, Sharath, Mamukkoya, Sivaji Guruvayoor and Lakshmipriya.

The cinematographer is Sujith Vasudev and the music director is Anand Madhusoodanan.
According to Ranjith, who has earlier directed Passenger and Arjunan Sakshi, "Molly is an unstoppable woman, who will do only what she feels is right. She lives in a world which is unique and where she is the unquestioned queen. Then there is the egoistic Pranav, who wants his system to rule over the subjects. When the two clash, sparks fly and egos do not relent."

The shooting will start this June. The locations include Palakkad and Thiruvalla.

Ranjith's other project titled Mayflower has been postponed and will be completed later this year.

Revathy to rock as Molly Aunty

Mollywood, in keeping with the new trend of strong female protagonists will have Revathy playing the protagonists in Ranjith Sankar's upcoming film Molly Aunty Rocks. The film also stars Prithviraj.

"It is a challenging role because it deals with a lot of pertinent issues facing middle-aged women. Also, it gives me a chance to act in a comedy after a long time, considering its light and fun take," says Revathy, whose last comic role in Mollywood was the 1991 blockbuster Kilukkam.

She also tells us why she's been inactive on the acting front. "Basically, most of the roles that come my way are boring. In Indian cinema, it is very rare that roles are scripted for middle-aged women. So, that's another reason why I'm doing the film as Ranjith had the courage to make a movie with such a woman as the central character," she says.

About the plot of the film, director Ranjith says, "It's a story about a strong-willed woman and stubborn young man who meet on a professional level and the resulting clashes of their inflated egos. It's a breezy, colourful movie that basically explores the chemistry between them."

The film also has three quirky-titled songs Molly Anthem, Molly Cool and Molly Locked composed by debutant Anand Madhusoodhanan.

Supriya Menon’s language skills come of use

Everyone knows that actor Prithviraj's wife Supriya Menon is a journalist by profession. However, post marriage, Supriya has not worked full-time, the reason cited being that she is not proficient enough in Malayalam to work in the Malayalam media.

However, her English language skills came of use recently, when Dr Biju, director of Veetillekkulla Vazhi, wanted someone to sub-title his film in English, for screenings at festivals. Supriya was more than ready to oblige, to subtitle the film in which Prithviraj plays the lead role. The film was screened at more than 15 international film festivals and also won the award for Best Feature Film in Malayalam at the 58th National Film Awards.

Prithviraj is a happy man

The Santosh Sivan directed classic period film Urumi, co-produced by actor Prithviraj has made the latter a very happy man.

In a rare appearance at a media interaction in Chennai last week, Prithviraj was all smiles as he shared the news of the success of the Tamil version and thanked the people of TN for making it a success.

Said he, “Urumi was one of the most expensive films in Kerala. But the project just grew big gradually from one line that Santosh narrated to me while we were doing Ravanan. I am not a full fledged producer and have just made one more film called Indian Rupee which won a National Award recently. I must thank Kalaipuli Thanu for helping us market the film in TN, for my contacts are restricted to Kerala as far as marketing is concerned.”

Apparently two versions of the film were shot for the differing Kerala and TN audiences. Talking about the star cast he said, “I am grateful to all the big stars and technicians that readily agreed to do the film and did not ever discuss their star remuneration with us. It was all possible only because of Santosh Sivan and the respect they have for his work. We wanted to cast actors who crossed borders in appeal because the film itself has no boundaries and has a Pan Indian appeal. Its one film that will outlive time. Even one year after its release in Kerala, it still looks fresh in its Tamil version today.”

The film was shot in 65 days and the crew is currently working on the English version. The actor disclosed that he is waiting for the right buyer for the dubbed Hindi version, who will be able to carry the film across in the manner befitting it and reach it to the audience in the right way.


The film stars Genelia, Arya, Prabhu Deva, Tabu, Anmol Gupte and Vidya Balan. Actor Arya was also present at the meet to convey his solidarity with the project.

Urumi wins at International Film Festival

Malayalam film Urumi won the Best Film Award at the Imagineindia International Film Festival held in Madrid, while Santosh Sivan won the Best Director trophy for the same movie. "Urumi and Santosh Sivan keep making us proud, yayyy," an ecstatic Genelia D'Souza, who has acted in the film along with Prithviraj, tweeted.

"Urumi was dubbed and released in Telugu and English and it is due for a release in Tamil. The festival also saw Deepti Naval garnering the best actress award for Memories in March, while Salim Kumar won Best Actor for Adaminte Makan Abu, according to the festival's official website.

Music composers Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy walked away with the trophy for Best Music for Zoya Akhtar's Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara.

About 70 films were screened in 12 sections at the festival. The films in the competitive section included Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara, Urumi, Memories in March, Achal, Adaminte Makan Abu and Traffic.

Japanese TV interested in 'Urumi'

It’s a movie that Mani Ratnam described as ‘huge and Santosh magic’. So it’s no surprise that 'Urumi - Padhinaindhaam Nootraandu Uraivaal', directed by Santosh Sivan, has enjoyed a good opening in Chennai though the Tamil version had hit screens more than a year after the Malayalam film.

But the icing on the cake must be the offer the filmmakers received for the television rights of the movie in Japan!

“A Japanese television channel approached us for the satellite rights of the Tamil movie. The channel officials clarified that they would subtitle the movie for telecasting,” confirmed an official spokesperson of the movie.

'Urumi' has Prithviraj, Prabhu Deva, Arya, Genelia, Tabu and Vidya Balan playing important roles. The movie recently came out tops at the Imagine India International Film Festival, held in Madrid. 'Urumi' was awarded Best Film.

“We’re planning to release the film in English,” says Prithviraj, who is also the co-producer of the film.

Tamil audiences are receptive to good films: Prithviraj Sukumaran

“I would like to produce films in Tamil as well, if my good friends like Arya give me dates,” reacted Malayalam superstar Prithviraj, who was in the city for the success meet of Urumi - Padhinaindham Noottraandin Urai Vaal, the Tamil version of his M’town blockbuster. Prithviraj is one of the producers of the film.

Speaking on the occasion, he said, “I watched the film a year ago in Malayalam, when it was first released.

I landed here on Friday night, and drove straight to a multiplex to watch it along with the audience.

To my pleasant surprise, the theater was jam-packed and I couldn’t get tickets. It was heartwarming to note that given a good film, the Tamil audience welcomes it with open arms. Thanks to Santhosh Sivan and Thaanu sir who made it happen.”

He disclosed that most of the actors who worked in Urumi were willing to part with their remuneration after listening to the film’s story.

Responding to a query whether his huge female fan base had diminished post his marriage, the handsome actor said in a humble tone, “It is not true that I had such a large female fan following, for it to come down after my wedding.

” Arya,who was also present at the event, said that he had always wanted to work with Santhosh Sivan and was thrilled when he called for Urumi.

“But unfortunately, Santhosh could offer only a cameo role. But I am really happy to be a part of this much-acclaimed period flick.”

'Molly Aunty' is coming

Ranjith Sankar's last movie, ‘Arjunan Sakshi', got a bad deal at the theatres but won applause when it was shown on TV. ‘Cocktail' was another Malayalam movie which received similar treatment. But then luck plays a huge role in tinsel world, making or marring careers.

“I am not bothered about the past,” says Ranjith as he gets ready to shoot his third movie. His maiden directorial venture, ‘Passenger', in fact was a landmark movie in that it began the phase when newcomers tried out new themes and filmgoers sat up and took notice. Gen Now in Mollywood is coming of age, happily, as ‘Salt and Pepper', the dark horse, got the box office to jingle. That's why we have a ‘22 Female Kottayam' and ‘Ee Adutha Kalathu', drawing crowds. Formulas are changing and bold new movie makers are calling the shots.

Ranjith's next is a satire called ‘Molly Aunty Rocks' (MAR) to be made under the banner of Dreams N Beyond. As with the other two movies Ranjith made, for this too he has written the story, screenplay and dialogues.

Revathi plays Molly Aunty, a middle aged bank employee, also a green card holder. Hers is a character you can't ignore, the type who makes her presence felt anywhere. And Prithviraj plays an IRS officer, Pranav, who gets to spar with her off and on. Lalu Alex, KPAC Lalitha, Sharath, Mamookkoya, Shivaji Guruvayoor, Sunil Sukhada, Lakshmi Priya, Krishnakumar form the rest of the cast.

“Shooting will begin this month and it is scheduled to be over in 45 days. Locations are in Palakkad and Tiruvalla,” Ranjith says adding that he has yet to apply for leave, for he still works in the IT sector and has yet to make movies his full time job.

Most of the crew is new, says Ranjith. The director of photography is Sujith Vasudev and editor, Lijo Paul. Anand Madhusoodhanan scores music. There are three tracks and one is called the Molly Anthem. The others are Molly Cool and Molly Locked. August cinema will distribute it.

“We hope to finish all the work of ‘Molly Aunty…' in time to reach it to the theatres in August,” says Ranjith, who has tried different themes so far and not tried to follow a formula, like many of the new age film makers.

So there is a still a certain amount of mystery about the story and treatment, that the audience can look forward to, unlike the host of movies made some time ago, a long line of mindless movies resembling one fluke hit in that genre.

Balancing act

Looks like actor Prithviraj is doing a brilliant balancing act with film production too on his hands. After all, his ventures “India Rupee” and “Urumi” have met with success. “I am happy to have produced films such as ‘Urumi'. In fact, we started that film in a small way, but it got bigger by the day, as we roped in some of the best actors in the industry. The project got a big boost when Santhosh Sivan took the mantel,” says Prithviraj.

The actor's also excited about his role in the soon-to-be-released Hindi film “Ayya”. Directed by Sachin Kundalkar, the film has Rani Mukherjee too in the lead. “I have been listening to scripts from various directors to start my next project soon,” he says.
