Kandaswamy Fever - Kandaswamy Hit On Screen Now !

KANTHASWAMY MOVIE REVIEW

Starring:
Vikram, Shriya, Prabhu, Vadivelu.
Direction: Susi Ganesan
Music: Devi Sri Prasad
Production: Kalaipuli S. Thanu

Susi Ganesan’s Kanthaswamy is an extravagant experiment at age-old formula stories of good Samaritans robbing from rich to feed the poor. Although the subject provides a treasure trove of stories, Kanthaswamy is largely overindulgent. After taking up a superhero subject, Susi’s uncertainty in keeping that one on track makes the movie stoop to lower levels.

The superhero, with a rooster’s outfit and a slightly odd demeanor, is exposed in all his vulnerability as the movie progresses. And that’s not the only issue with Kanthaswamy. The movie is unreasonably stretched, for no rhyme or reason. The choppy editing also makes one feel that any scene could be placed anywhere inside the movie. Picture this: after what one thinks to be the climax, the movie heaves for another half-hour with a comedy scene, an item number and then culminates into conclusion.

Kanthaswamy is about a group of friends, who came to Chennai with nothing in hand, but dreams and an examination hall ticket. Astonishingly for us, each one of them lands a job in CBI and uses the money obtained from
Kanthaswamy

raids to serve the poor and needy. Kanthaswamy, who secretly doles out money for surgeries, education and weddings in poor families, becomes a phenomenon that is difficult to demystify.

Prabhu, the Intelligence Officer, takes up the case and arrests people like Vadivelu who try to imitate the real Kanthaswamy. But in the end, he does nail the superhero after 3 long hours.

Vikram has sincerity written all over him; he breaks into a secret smile while nailing the corrupt politicians, raises his eyebrows in a charming manner while countering Shriya’s jaunts and fixes the movie’s faults with his persona alone. Besides, he saves the movie to a larger extent than could actually be not in his scope. On the other hand, the horrendously clichéd dialogues also earn him a few catcalls.

Shriya’s designer outfits expose more of her chiseled body than they hide. Her role, albeit smoking hot, rather comes across as a dumb girl who strips down to threaten Vikram in his fully CCTV monitored office room. Now that’s only a sample of inferior writing.

Prabhu, Vadivelu, Ashish Vidhyarthi and Y G Mahendra also have roles that are fleshed out in a disorganized manner. Vadivelu’s comedy track pops in at odd times when the movie gets serious as if it’s just so inevitable.

Devi Sri Prasad’s songs are bang on, complemented with the neat picturization on screen. But the background score is just a cacophony of drums and an aural ordeal.

Towards the end of the movie, you begin to see visions of the likeable Vikram in movies that are more than a rehash of formula movies - time tried, tested and past its sell-by date.

Verdict: A hollow hype!

Kanthaswamy Music Review - Kanthaswamy - Vikram sizzles all the way

It can't get bigger than this. Kalaipuli S Thanu's ‘Kanthaswamy’, touted to be the big-budgeted movie in Tamil film industry, starring Vikram and Shriya in the lead roles and directed by Susi Ganesan, is getting ready for release. The movie has been shot in various exotic locales across the globe.

It dwells on a mass theme - the need for equal distribution of wealth among the people and narrow the gap between the rich and the poor. ‘Kanthaswamy’ has musical score by Devi Sri Prasad and interestingly 'Chiyaan' Vikram has sung half of the songs. Perhaps its after M K Thyagaraja Bhagavathar that a movie's hero has sung all songs himself. Peppy, racy and pulsating, the song in ‘Kanthaswamy’ are youthful. The pick of them being “Excuse Me Mr Kanthaswamy” and “Mambo Mamiya”.

1. Yem Peru Meenakumari

Singer: Malathy

Vibrant and high voltage song. Malathy, who has made a name for herself singing such brisk numbers, is at it again. A cocktail of racy beats and funny lyrics, the song is sure to catch the hearts of youths. An item-number, it is power-packed and glamorous.

2. Excuse Me

Singer: Vikram and Sucithra

It is a peppy dance number. Sure to make one shake their leg. Supposedly a romantic number, it is about a girl's desire for his lover boy. Vikram has brought the singer out of him well. His diction too is great. A good singing debut it is by him.

3. Kanthaswamy

Singer: Devi Sri Prasad

A remix that is rapid like bullets fired from a machine gun. The song rendered by Devi Sri Prasad himself has enough elements to make one tap their foot. The beats in the interludes deserve a special mention.

4. Mambo Mamiya

Singer: Vikram and Rita

The pick of the album. It is loud and oozes with pace. The open-throated voice of Vikram compliments that of Rita well. However shades of “Kannum Kannum Nokia” from ‘Anniyan’ cannot be ruled out. The good use of electric guitar and percussion gives a lift to the song.

5. Allegro

Singer: Rita

A refreshing voice it is from Rita. It is a fast number which has everything in it to appease music-lovers. The rhythm and beats makes it an interesting one to listen to. The foot-tapping number is a delight to listen to.

6. Idhellam Dupe

Singer: Vikram

Vikram has rendered the song that begins like a rap. The catchy lyric by Viveka is its major strength. He sings the song in one breath. Vikram's magnetic voice is a delight.

7. Meow Meow

Singer: Vikram and Priya Hemesh

A perfect rhythm-based song, Meow Meow is sure to enter the lips of everyone instantly. Loaded with catchy rhythm, the song begins at slow pace only to gather momentum as it progresses.

‘Kanthaswamy’, in all, is a music album worth listening to thanks to Chiyaan's magic.

Aazeek
