Mamta to croon for Anwar

After singing a number of super hit songs in other South Indian languages, actress Mamta Mohandas is finally getting ready to sing in her mother tongue Malayalam. Mamta will be seen singing for Amal Neerad's latest movie ‘Anwar’ in which she is also playing the female lead.

Mamta who has already proved to be a successful singer in the south, started her singing for films with the Telugu movie ‘Rakhee’. A favourite voice of musician Devi Sri Prasad, she had already won the Filmfare award for the best playback singer, last year. The actress who has already sang for 13 Telugu films and 3 Tamil films, had recently sung for a Malayalam album produced by East Coast videos.

RAAVAN'S PREMIERE!

Mani's bilingual magnum opus Raavan is in the final stage of production and although no official release date has been announced yet, it might hit the screens post summer. But, interestingly, as has become customary to Bollywood movies these days, it will have an international premiere before being released in India. Speculations are rife in the media about a possible premiere of Raavan at the IIFA award events, scheduled to be held in South Korea this year.

With this, Raavan will join the league of Bollywood biggies to have premiered overseas, including the latest KJo - SRK blockbuster My Name is Khan. Raavan has an ensemble star cast including Ash - Abi, Vikram, Prithviraj and Priyamani and is scored by double Oscar / Grammy winner A R Rahman.

Priyamani chokes

Usually most actresses don’t prefer to dub for their films for obvious reasons. But still there are some who makes it a point in their contracts to use their own voice.

National award winning actress Priyamani has become more determined these days to dub for her films. One reason may be, she recently missed a Kerala State Award for the film ‘Thirakkatha’ because she has not dubbed herself for the film even with an incredible performance. So the dark beauty has decided not to take chances any more.

Recently Priyamani was dubbing for the tri-lingual Mani film ‘Raavan’. She is dubbing for herself for both the Hindi and Tamil versions of ‘Raavan’. Since Priya knows the languages well everything thing was going fine. Then there was an emotional scene which has to be dubbed with intense modulations. Mani’s dubbing directors told her to do the Tamil version first and then do the Hindi version because she will be able to understand the feel better and emote better in Hindi.

She was game and started that way with Tamil. The scene had typical Tirunelveli dialect and Mani was personally supervising Priya. The dubbing started and at one stage Priya became so emotional and choked. Finally she broke down. She said the scene was so touching and she virtually blended with the scene.

Good signs any way. Priyamani feels ‘Raavan’ will be a turning point of her career.

Vikram feels 3 Mani films

“Acting in ‘Raavan’ is like being part of three Mani Ratnam projects,” says Vikram. And the ‘Chiyaan’ has a valid reason to justify his claim. “Because, each and every scene is being shot thrice,” he says.

“I play the hero in the Tamil version and villain in the Hindi version. And the other version is Telugu which too is being shot simultaneously. So I feel like doing three Mani films,” the National Award winning actor explains.

On his yet-to-be-titled movie with Selvaraghavan, Vikram says, “I know Selva right from ‘Thulluvadho Ilamai’ days. He always wanted to stay out of the box and he is proving it once again in this new project too. You can see a new Vikram.”

Ask him about his producer avatar, Vikram, who is funding a film directed by Sasikumar, says, “He is the golden boy of Tamil film industry. The film is going to be yet another rocker. The ‘Subramaniapuram’ magic will be repeated.”

'Kakki Chattai' remake: Prithviraj in Kamal's role

'Kakki Chattai' (1985), one of the biggest blockbusters in Kamal Haasan's career, is all set to be remade in Malayalam.

And guess who would reprise the role of "Ulaga Nayagan" in the remake? It is none other than Prithviraj! The film will be directed by Pramod-Pappan and will be produced by Jagadeesh Chandran of Kichu Films.

'Kakki Chattai' showcased Kamal's unmatched charisma onscreen. He played a young man who wanted desperately to join the police force. Ambika and Madhavi played the female leads, while Sathiyaraj made a stunning performance in the role of the villain. Beautiful songs scored by Ilayaraja and breathtaking action scenes were the other highlights of the masala movie, directed by Rajasekhar.

It would be interesting to see how Prithviraj, who has done police roles earlier in films such as 'Satyam', 'Police' and 'Vargam', takes up the challenge of reprising a role made famous by Kamal Haasan.
