Aamir Khan pays a suprise visit to Rani

The actor dropped in to meet Rani Mukerji on her film set; shared tips on marketing and impressed everyone with his fluent Marathi Actor Aamir Khan made an unannounced visit to the sets of Aiyya, his Talaash co-star Rani Mukerji’s upcoming film. Since his TV show, Satyamev Jayate, was being shot in the same suburban studio, he decided to surprise Rani and the crew of the Sachin Kundalkar-directed movie.

“Rani told me Aamir might visit, but I thought she was pulling my leg. We were shooting a song sequence a floor away from Satyamev Jayate and, at around 4 pm, we were dumbstruck to see Aamir enter our set,” says Sachin, who is making his Bollywood debut.

Produced by Anurag Kashyap, Aiyya is a woman-centric film based on the idea of switching the roles of women with men — it portrays men as objects of desire. “It is a bold theme in terms of its constitution.

The boldness is not in making someone undress but in the fact that a man can also be just a sexual object for a lady,” says the director. Sachin reveals that Aamir sat through the shoot and interacted with Rani and him for a long time afterwards. They had an informal discussion about the movie and spoke about Aamir’s plans to promote his TV show.

Everyone on the sets was awestruck to hear him speak in chaste Marathi. “It was crisp and flawless, exactly as I or any Maharashtrian would speak it. It was unbelievable,” says Sachin.

Rani Mukerji's super power

Anurag Kashyap's Aiyya starring Rani Mukerji has the actress in a quirky role. A source who watched the rushes revealed that Rani's character has an unique gift in the film.

Her sense of smell is very strong which helps her make some crucial decisions in life. While it may sound weird, this trait brings enough humour in the film.

The source says, "The story takes a very interesting turn when she falls in love with him after smelling him. Even before she sees him, Rani is turned on by his perfume."

Rani’s Marathi numbers

Actor Rani Mukerji is set to take item numbers to the next level, as she has not one, but three such songs for her in Anurag Kashyap's Aiyya. "The film is a mixture of reality and dream and Rani will be seen doing three item songs in her dream in the film. Amit Trivedi has composed six songs for the film and three of them will be Rani's item songs," Sachin Kundalkar, who directs "Aiyya", told IANS.

Co-produced by Anurag Kashyap and Viacom 18, the movie is said to be about a woman who finds a man desirable because he smells good.

Rani plays a Marathi girl in the movie and is paired opposite southern star Prithvi Raj. The director says it is a fresh pairing.

"I don't know for how many years I was trying to work with her (Rani). Luckily this script excited her. As far as the lead actor was concerned, one of my friends suggested Prithvi's name," Kundalkar said.

"Prithvi is an amazing actor and both are looking very fresh in the film," he said.

Kundalkar also says the Bengali beauty had to undergo language training to perfect the character of a Marathi girl.

"Rani is very hardworking. She had gone through language training program before starting the film. She was a complete Marathi girl on the sets," he said.

Molly Aunty starts rolling

Director Ranjith Sankar's new film Molly Aunty Rocks, which stars Revathy and Prithviraj in the lead roles, has set sail.

The peppy flick about ego clashes between a middle-aged bank employee (Revathy) and a stubborn young IRS officer (Prithviraj) is expected to be canned within a single schedule of 45 days in Palghat and Tiruvalla.

This film also marks Revathy's comeback in Mollywood and that too in a comic role, while it would be Ranjith's second consecutive collaboration with Prithviraj.

Incidentally, the director had initially planned to work on another project with Prithviraj and Jayasurya titled Mayflower during this time. "We couldn't get both Prithviraj's and Jayasurya's dates together, so that film had to be pushed to later this year. But in a way, it's a good thing because, it gave me the window to work on this small but breezy project. We hope to have it ready for an August release," says Ranjith.
