The film will be made simultaneously in Tamil, Malayalam, English, Hindi and Japanese.Priyamani - Prithviraj Together Again - Malayalam Movie News
An Interview with Mozhi Fame Prithviraj.
Mani Ratnam’s film:
His career graph took time to rise but clever choice of roles and determination have made him one of the busiest stars in South India today. He will soon be acting in a Mani Ratnam film with Vikram and Aiswarya Rai. “Mani Ratnam is one of the reasons I am in films,” he says. He is delighted at the opportunity. However, bitten by the acting bug so early, Prithiviraj never got around to completing his college studies. Does it bother him? “Not really. But it would have been better if my entry into tinsel town had happened a little later. On hindsight, I feel that cinema was always my destination. I wish I had gone to New York University or some place like that to study cinema,” says the star.Prithviraj is a good cook too…
But he feels that his two years in Tasmania helped him grow as a person. “I became more independent. I learnt to do everything, from washing and cooking to managing my finances, on my own.”“I am a very good cook,” he adds with a grin. “I can cook exotic Chinese dishes that I learnt from my friends, who were women, by the way.” But cooking is not his hobby. That is something he does well. Like singing, a talent he seems to have inherited from his mother, Mallika Sukumaran. “Ranjith wanted me to do a song in ‘Rock n’ Roll’ but I wriggled out of it,” he laughs.
Prithiviraj is into books and his eclectic tastes have him reading books that range from thrillers and pulp fiction to tomes on cinema and philosophy. “I think my brother, Indrajith, and I inherited the passion for reading from my father, Sukumaran, who was a voracious reader. He would read nine newspapers and the collection we had at home would beat that in many local college libraries. He had a thirst for knowledge,” recalls Prithiviraj.
Perhaps it is that desire to learn that finds Prithviraj taking a keen interest in the minutiae that goes into filmmaking. “If there is something new on a set, say a new camera, I make it a point to understand its working within two days. I try and glean as much knowledge as I can about it.”
Ambitious :
Talk about cinema and Prithviraj becomes animated. He feels that Indian cinema in general and Malayalam cinema in particular must adapt the best of international technology but look for “content and stories within our culture and language.” “Why should we borrow stories from Hollywood or Bollywood? Our literature is so rich and diverse. But there is a dearth of good scriptwriters in Malayalam cinema. And I think we should have more films in English. That is one of the ways to cater to the world,” he points out.
HIS Goals:
“Ten years from now, I see myself as a director and a producer with my own production house that will, hopefully, make good films. Not just films in Malayalam and Tamil but Indian films in English that will appeal to regional and international audiences,” says the actor.Marriage:
And, marriage? “Yes, that is on the cards. But only to someone I come to know well enough and am comfortable with.”There was no time for more.
Prithviraj was taking a break from a shoot at Vismaya Max at Kazhakuttam, in the outskirts of the city.

Prithviraj caught between devil and deep sea
Prithviraj has been acting in the magnum opus Ravan or Asokavanam by the ace director Mani Ratnam. But Fortune has been gracious enough to offer him The 19th Step, an international project under the direction of Bharat Bala with Kamal Hassan, Asin and the Japanese actor Tadanobu Asano. The script has been handled by none other than the veteran writer M.T. Vasudevan Nair.
As often rightly said, every fortune comes with a tag. So when our hero Prithviraj was floating in the seventh heaven, misfortune struck him in the form of Mani Ratnam's heart attack and the scheduled shooting of the much awaited movie Ravan got delayed. The actor is now caught in a fix as to whether he would be able to make it to both Ravan and The 19th Step. Prithviraj known for his choice of movies and scripts has however decided to give top priority to Mani Ratnam before moving forward in search of greener pastures
My first break -- Prithviraj
How it happened
I come from a family of actors — my father Sukumaran and mother Mallika were actors. My brother Indrajith is an actor too. In fact, he’s playing an important role in Sarvam. But, I never dreamt of acting. When I was doing my computer engineering in Australia, I came down for vacation. Director Fazil introduced me to director Renjith, who was looking for a new face for his directorial debut Nandanam. Later, I debuted in Tamil with K.V. Anand’s Kana Kanden.
How it felt
I was happy to see myself on the screen, but felt I must improve a lot. I was one of those people who had no idea what they wanted. However, finally, I am doing something I like. I like the rush of adrenalin, the kick that acting gives. I want to die an actor.
How life changed
Not much. I’ve done 45 films, including seven in Tamil. Now I am doing Ninaithaley Innikkum, a Tamil remake of the Malayalam hit Classmate. I feel I must work harder to reach a certain level in acting.

Actor's Take!
How did acting happen for Prithviraj? While doing his engineering in Australia, Prithviraj flwe down to spend his holiday in Chennai. At that time, director Fazil, who met him, introduced him to director Renjith. But as Fazil expected, Renjith could not include him in his directorial debut Nandanam; Prithviraj's much-awaited debut happened in Tamil through K.V.Anand's Kana Kanden. Though Prithviraj stepped into moviedom by default, after his debut, he was happy to see himself on screen and gradually took a liking to his profession. Eventually he has also identified a deep passion and dedication in the creative field. Now after 45 films with seven in Tamil including the superhit Mozhi, Prithviraj is shooting for Ninaithale Inikkum a remake of the Malayalam film Classmates.
Prithviraj’s dilemma
The actor was recently quoted saying — “What I enjoy about acting is the adrenaline rush. When the director says, ‘Action’, there is a huge rush of adrenaline, I don’t know why. I just love the feeling of becoming somebody else.”
The latest about the actor is that he has been offered a role in the Bharath Bala directed 19 Steps starring Kamal Haasan, Asin and Tadanobu. We hear that Prithviraj wants to do the film badly as the script is by MT Vasudevan Nair, who has written many memorable dialogues in Malayalam cinema for Prithviraj’s father Sukumaran.
However, Prithviraj is facing date problems as the shoot of Raavan is getting delayed. He will be able to do 19 Steps only if Mani Ratnam is able to complete his magnum opus, as the shoot of Bharath Bala’s film starts in the first week of August.

Prithviraj facing date problems?
Now, the latest we hear is that Prithviraj, who is currently busy with ace Mani Ratman's budget bilingual film tentatively titled Ravan/ Asokavanam, is facing date problems as the shoot of Ravan was delayed after director Mani Ratnam was hospitalized after a minor heart attack.
Though Prithviraj wants to do The 19th Step, as the script is by the legendary Malayalam writer M.T. Vasudevan Nair, who has won four national awards for best screenplay, it is heard that his top priority is Mani Ratnam’s Ravan. Mani Ratnam plays Raavan to Raavan's shoot
Even as Raavan’s shoot has been put on hold, eyes haven’t stopped looking in Mani Ratnam’s direction, as he is convalescing following a heart attack. The ace director is still in hospital and this is expected to stall the film’s shoot for over a month. The plan, originally, was to start a new schedule of shoot in Kerala from tomorrow.
The director, who is still in the hospital, is said to be responding well to treatment. The maverick filmmaker’s spokesperson vouches that his health is safe and he should be out from the hospital and on the sets soon.
As of now, only one person has access to the director’s ward, and that is his wife Suhasini. It is said that the actress is the one to tell others about his health condition, as he has refused to see anybody else.
Industry bigwigs, all of who has worked with the director, are thronging to see him and convey their wishes. But the director hasn’t budged and Suhasini is still the only one to have access to him.
Mani Ratnam’s health has postponed shooting, and this is expected to cause delays in the finally release of the film, as the heavy duty star cast of the problem is said to have jam-packed dates.
