Kerala Box Office (August 26 - September 27)

In the last month, there have been nearly a dozen releases. Ramzan releases have brought some cheer to the industry as Loud Speaker, Duplicate and Robinhood have taken decent openings.

Prithvirajs Joshy directed Robinhood has taken a fantastic opening in nearly 70 screens across Kerala, though it carries mixed reports. It is the clear number one and has netted Rs 4.31 lakh in its first four days at Padma Theatre (Ernakulam), a 100 per cent opening! How big it will turn out to be will depend on whether it will be able to hold on in the coming days.

At number two is the Jayaraj directed Loud Speaker, starring Mammootty, which, after a slow start, has picked up. Word of mouth on the film is encouraging. At Shenoys Theatre (Ernakulam), the film has netted Rs 8.39 lakhs in its first 10 days of its release, which is 82 per cent of the capacity.

In third position is the Kamal Hassan-Mohanlal thriller Unnaipol Oruvan, which was initially released in only 20 screens in Kerala. It was a big mistake because by the second week, the Malayalam releases blocked all theatres in other centres.

In fourth position is Suraj Venjaranmoodus debut film as hero Duplicate. Made on a shoestring budget, it is doing well. In fifth position is last months number one, Puthiya Mugham, which is steady in B and C.

Robinhood - entertains, but in parts : Robinhood Movie Review

Robinhood, like all other recent biggies, have its source material from the comic book - all about men indulging in crimes, but for a cause. It is definitely the huge experience of veteran Joshy, that seems to have helped the new movie to end up as a safer fare. Planted on an illogical theme of ATM robbery, that too in a mass and regular scale (........with the help of decoding the emitted electromagnetic signals that arise when some one swaps their cards), ‘Robinhood’ could have ended up as a too silly fare, but for the technical and narrative finesse of its director.

The movie has Prithviraj as Venkitesh Aiyer, a brainy physics teacher working in an entrance coaching centre, who is a regular burglar at night in the ATM's of a particular bank. As the local police fails to nab the culprit, the bank headed by Nandhakumara Menon (Biju Menon) invites private investigator Alexander Felix (Narain) to crack the clueless case. The little “sherlock holmes” is aided in his job by Roopa (Bhavana), who is also the systems head of the bank. The rest of the movie is on a thickly packaged plot of clues, leads, twists, crosses and double crosses and thrills of a potbolier.

Sachi-Sethu, the scriptwriting duo, is forced to resort to frivolous, predictable sequences to connect with the central events and the big surprise element is missing although this 'cat and mouse' game. More over, an average viewer will tell you, that there are more easy ways to catch the regular ATM looter, than to resort to these inane and sophisticated ways put on in the movie. Anyhow it is the director Joshy, who had come up with enough built- ups to make you believe that such events can happen somewhere in an utopian world.

The highlight of the movie is the glossy looks and colorfulness with which it is presented. With many song and dance sequences and funny moments, the movie will not give you much time to ponder over logic, atleast when in the cinema halls. Cinematographer Shaji excels, as usual with his shots while art director Joseph nellickal and even costumer S B Satheeshan parades the screen with many watchables that will keep you engrossed. With a brisk pacing cuts by Renjan Abraham and a bevy of beautiful actresses, it' may not be difficult to watch as long as you aren't expecting anything remotely intelligent to transpire. The songs by M Jayachandran, sticks to the mood of the movie. But the BG scores and title tracks by Rajamani proves more advantageous to the movie, than the average songs.

And in the acting side Prithvi makes a cakewalk with his usual manovores in twin avatars, the second with an uniform like jacket and head gear. And sometimes you feel this character to be one in the same mould of that in ‘Puthiya Mukham’, rehashed in the opposite direction. But without the ''heist '' element. Narain is impressive and will gain more fans for his screen presence, though his character is not so convincing. Bhavana and Samvrutha provides that oomph factor and appear pretty all through. Biju Menon as the baddie seems to in a race to announce that he is behind all those wickedry. Jayasuriya and Salimkumar are in less demanding regular roles.

With better performances from the youngsters and a director with a real eye for virtuoso camera work, ‘Robinhood’ is only a dynamite script away from becoming a good hit. Anyhow, the goods are delivered and there are enough elements to keep the minds occupied. If you are on the demand of a high-octane, low mind activity, keep your brains at home, and get rewarded with an easy go of two plus hours in the company of this 'Robinhood’.

Robinhood : The First Day Crowd & Flexes @ TVM Sree Padmanabha (Kerala)

Robin(n) Hood - Pretty decent!! - Movingpictures123.blogspot.com

I tried to watch this movie on its release day, that is yesterday, but had to go back without tickets because of the crowd that gathered to see the supposedly new-found 'Superstar of Malayalam Cinema' Prithviraj's new movie with the hitmaker Joshiy. So I could watch the movie only today, after hearing some not-so-good opinions from many people who watched the movie on first day. The crowd was lesser, but the show was house full by the time the movie began. Prithviraj's introduction was greeted with wolf whistles and huge rounds of applause, something that you usually find during the introduction of either Mohanlal or Mammootty. So this guy actually has got a fan base now, I was thinking. If he can realize what he has got now, and work towards improving his acting skills, he can definitely be a superstar in the coming years. I am not a fan of this guy and havent liked him in many films except a few. But it is good that a younger actor can actually achieve a fan base in Kerala. Whether he is worthy of that or not, only time will decide. Now, lets get to the movie.

The title of the movie says Robinn Hood with an extra 'n'. I was wondering why they did that. But then Joshi renamed himself as Joshiy, so this one wasnt surprising. The title sequence of the movie, though done well, was a cheap copy of the Vodafone ZooZoo ads. Why would anyone copy from an immensely popular visual which has been watched by all, and show them an imitation again? People obviously wouldnt like it. Even if they wanted to copy something, they should have copied from something which was good, but less popular. The movie is the story of a thief who robs money from the ATMs of one particular bank. There is a private investigator who is appointed to investigate the crime and also an Assistant Commissioner who is in charge of this case. The cat and mouse game that follows is what makes up most parts of this movie and its story.

Prithviraj had a great opening for his last film 'Puthiya Mukham', which went on to do good business as well. He had nothing much to perform in that action film, except to give the screen presence of an action hero. Here also, he is required to do the same, along with showing some technical wizardry as well. He plays Venkatesh Iyer, an ex-IITian, who teaches at an entrance coaching centre in the morning and then loots ATMs in the night. He doesnt really have to portray great emotional changes and all in this cop & thief story. But it is his star presence and good looks, which is made use of, in this movie. He does a good job in displaying that. But in one scene, where he is required to emote, during the flashback, his acting is not very appreciable. He makes it look melodramatic, by shouting out his dialogues (something which he always does in such scenes). That was a bad scene, especially because of his acting.

Though the film is about Prithviraj and tells his story, it gives almost equal importance to private investigator Alexander Felix, played by Narein. Narien has got a good role after a long time in Malayalam after a very short appearance in Bhagyadevatha. He was plain horrible in his last outing as hero, Minnaminnikkoottam. But in this movie his performance graph varies between average and good. He plays this casual, chilled out investigator who has a strong tendency to flirt with any female he sees. His character is fun and brings in a touch of humour to the narrative. His interactions with the female characters in the movie are funny. His voice was dubbed by Sharath, the well known television actor. Sharath's voice suits Narein very well. (Like in Achuvinte Amma & Classmates). He almost gets as much screen-time as Prithviraj, and does a decent job. I was wondering what, the first choice for this role, Ranjith (director) would have done if he was the one doing this role.

Jayasurya is wasted. I think he agreed to do this role, just to be a part of a Joshi film. He has a very short role, something similar to a guest appearance. But he does a good job in the limited number of scenes he has, as a serious police officer. He is the better actor among the three, but is hardly given any scope to perform. Bhavana is turning into the babe of Malayalam Cinema. Her introduction was also received with lots of whistles and applause. She plays the system head of the bank, who is on deputation from Mumbai, sent to find details about the robberies. She has nothing much to do other than look good. She shows a little more skin than usual in this movie. She looks good, but has to lose some more weight to be actually called a babe. Samvrutha's character was an unwanted addition. She plays a student who is fascinated by her lecturer, played by Prithviraj. She does bring in some light moments, but they do nothing to take the story forward, and end up as speed-breakers. Her character is conveniently forgotten when the story nears its climax. She doesnt look as good as she usually does also. Biju Menon plays the villain's role with no surprises. He was plain okay. Hope he changes his acting styles, before he gets typecast in similar roles. Salimkumar and Jaffer Idukki are added for comic relief. Salimkumar does evoke some laughter. The lesser said about Jaffer Idukki, the better. The person who took him into films should be killed. This disgusting comedian is even more vulgar than Suraaj. Hope Joshi does not take people like him in his future movies.

The screenplay by Sachi-Sethu (who previously wrote the stupid, but extremely entertaining Chocolate) is full of plot-holes. I went in for the movie ready to forgive all such plot-holes, so I didnt pay much attention to detail, as I just wanted to be entertained. The technical details regarding the ATM robberies are quite funny, but told in a believable way. The movie managed to hold my attention till the end with some predictable, but interesting twists here and there. But what makes this mediocre script work, at least to a certain extent, is Joshi's able execution. He is still the best director we have in our state to make action thrillers. His talent in making multistarrers is well-known. Here also, he gets decent performances from the cast, and manages to engage the audience for most of the running time of the movie.

Shaji is one of the good cinematographers we have and he does a good job yet again. Ranjan Abraham's editing was neat. Nothing extraordinary, but kept the pace of the movie intact. The music by M Jayachandran was very average, with most of the songs sounding like cheap copies of Hindi and English songs. This is not Jayachandran's kind of music. He should stick to making melodies. The first song was shot well which showed the growing friendship among Prithviraj, Narein and Bhavana. Many shots were obviously inspired from Dostana. The duet song with Samvrutha and Prithviraj was totally unnecessary and it looked really funny too. Prithviraj was trying to do dance steps like Surya, and fails completely. As I said above, Samvrutha wasnt looking her best too. The third song, a party song is a mish-mash of many Bollywood numbers including a song from Race. It is not necessary to ape Bollywood to look cool. Our people should try making some cool visuals for our songs on their own. Almost half the movie is shot in Ramada resorts, most of which we have already seen in Sagar Alias Jacky and 2 Harihar Nagar. It is not really a new location now. The houses and the apartments used in the movie are also so frequently used in all our movies, that it has become really repetitive. Kochi has much more nice locations and houses. Filmmakers should utilize them rather than sticking to the usual locations.

On the whole, it is a pretty decent entertainer from Joshi and the young guys. Far better than Prithviraj's previous release, Puthiya Mukham. This movie has the Joshi signature all over it, though it lacks the punch of usual Joshi movies. Maybe its because it is the first time that Joshi is working with younger stars like Prithviraj, Narien and Jayasurya, as he always makes superstar movies. I think Joshi decided to make this movie with these guys because he might have felt bad of the fact that they didnt get to play any significant role in his magnum-opus Twenty 20 wanted to give these guys a chance. If you are ready to ignore the technical plot-holes of the narrative and do not mind killing some time checking out this film, you can definitely spend your money on this. I wasnt disappointed because I didnt have any major expectation from this movie other than that it was a Joshi film. But the movie certainly proved all the bad opinions I heard about it, wrong. Joshi films have rarely disappointed me. The only two films I havent liked of the director are Praja and July 4. (I havent seen Dubai). Other than these, I have enjoyed almost all the other movies by Joshi. This one also was pretty decent. The youth who turned the below average Puthiya Mukham into a hit, may like this movie too. If this movie becomes a hit, Prithviraj would consolidate his position as a star. But he has to work on his acting skills and improve quite a lot before he can actually become a superstar.

Rating - 3/5

Robinhood Review - By Moviebuzz

As we always have it in our movies, when the hero is a thief or a fugitive, he will have a reason for becoming one and to be christened as Robinhood. It happens here as well and the best thing about director Joshy's adventure is that, for a change, you are shown who the culprit is right from the first frame itself. But sadly, there are not many surprises left from then on!

Venkitesh Iyer (Prithviraj) is a brilliant young man, teaching physics to students at an entrance coaching centre and staying in a posh apartment. But the genius has a different face once it becomes dark and he puts on a head-gear, jacket, shades and the likes, to rob ATMs of a particular bank.

After the news gets into headlines, the bank employs Felix (Narain), a private detective who in fact is an IPS dropout, to investigate into the case. Roopa (Bhavana), an officer at the same bank, helps him in this and even shares his apartment.

The hunt is on and we expect the action to be really a gripping one. With the investigator and the culprit going around singing songs and staying in adjacent apartments, you realize that it's only a matter of time before the noose tightens.

Think logically and you will realize that the crime being done here can easily be caught by anyone who cares to monitor the action more closely at the ATM counter!

Among the other characters, Jayasurya plays a cop and a batch mate of Felix at the IPS Academy, who is in charge of the case from the Police department.

Samvrutha Sunil is a student at Venkitesh's academy, who is desperately in love with him. Biju Menon is the Managing Director of the troubled bank and Lena plays his eye-candy secretary.

There are some nice moments in Robinhood, no denying that, but mostly things happen on a sheepishly predictable track. Scenarists Sachi-Sethu had shown lots of promise with their earlier film, Chocolate, but here the duo have done an average show at best.

The visuals are pretty nice but the music, solely intended to thrill, is generally a letdown. Worse still, the choreography of songs like Priyanu Mathram… looks disgustingly outdated.

Prithviraj looks handsome, but why do he have to wear the same outfits during his escapades, which looks like a uniform after a while? Narain portrays an almost eccentric character and has done a decent job but his roving eye often looks artificial.

Bhavana has nothing much to do in the whole film except perhaps during the song'n' dance routine and Samvrutha Sunil is particularly loud during her scenes where she is doing everything to attract the hero. Jayasurya is visibly uncomfortable playing an IPS officer, a character with ordinary brains.

Biju Menon is shown as someone too eager to announce that he is the baddie in the story. In all fairness, Robinhood is a watchable fare but it gives the feeling that things could have been much better if the makers had approached it with more passion.

The basic concept is quite interesting but the makers of the film fail to transform the charm on to the screen, beyond a point. Go and watch it with no expectations and you may feel it's an okay attempt after all.

Verdict: Average

Robinhood is for Prithviraj's fans

The making of a superstar was the statement that gained prominence with the commercial success of Prithviraj's previous Malayalam release Puthiya Mukham. No matter what issues you had with the film, credit should be given where it is due, and that is after nearly a decade of hard work, Prithviraj has entered the big league.

In his new Malayalam film, Robinhood, Prithviraj tries to consolidate his position as a hero whose name would be enough to guarantee crowds. Veteran director Joshiy at the helm of affair does makes an effort to give credibility to the proceedings.

The story is about a thief Venkatesh (Prithviraj) who steals money from ATM machines by using fake ATM cards. He gives tutorials during the day and steals after midnight. His target is IBI Bank owned by Nandakumar Menon (Biju Menon). At first, the bank is in denial that anything is amiss, believing the discrepancies to be a computer error. They wake up only when the pilferage reaches mammoth proportions, and when account holders demand an explanation. The police get involved and even a private investigator Alexander Felix (Narein) is pressed into service. Felix, an expert in solving cyber crimes gets help from Rupa (Bhavana), the system head of the bank, who is specially deputed from Mumbai [ Images ] for this purpose.

The technical details about the heist would make good children's literature! Still, we wait for things to explode or some unexpected twists, but they never come. The narrative keeps going round and round, then suddenly things happen in a jiffy as if the director realised that the time for the climax has come, with lots of loose ends hanging around.

The script by Sachi-Sethu handles humour well, but, is found lacking when it comes to providing substances to the characters. So, the hugely mounted effort turns out to be a disappointment.

The main trio try their best to pump life into the flaccid story and even succeed to give us a glimmer of hope. The film belongs to Prithviraj, whether it is the stylised look of the thief or the formally attired TamBhram intellectual or even the GenNext yuppie; though all of it ends up being superficial in the final outcome.

Narein as Felix has something new to offer. His role is virtually of a comedian, which is a departure from his role in films like Classmates, 4the People and even the intense roles in a couple of Tamil films. Bhavana in an important role is okay. Samvrutha as Abhirami, Venky's student who has a crush on him, provides some funny moments but suddenly vanishes in the second half. Jayasurya as the police officer investigating the case is reduced to a side role. Biju Menon as the villain seems to be sleepwalking through the film without having any intensity or vigour.

All in all, Robinhood falls short of expectations and will depend on Prithviraj's fans to make it a success.

Ace director Mani Ratnam is busy wrapping up the schedule of his bilingual Raavan and Ashokavanam. The historic Malshej Ghat close to Pune is the venue of the long-drawn climax planned by the unit.

Reportedly, Mani has asked music composer A.R. Rahman to add a family song which will involve all the big names of the movie – Abhishek Bachchan, Vikram, Prithviraj, Prabhu, Govinda, Karthik, Aishwarya and Bipasha.

The cameo of Bipasha is seen as one of the highlights by industry folks. Originally, it was offered to Nayantara but the actress turned it down citing some pressing reasons.

Robinhood Review - Nowrunning.com

I remember having read of Robinhood - The Prince of Thieves long back; the outlaw who robbed the rich to lend a hand to the poor. Dressed in Lincoln green, Robinhood and his Merrymen roamed about Sherwood, heedless of the laws, and unmindful of the rules. Defender of the underdogs and a master of disguise, Robnhood was no common criminal.

Joshey's Robinhood has moved far away from Nottinghamshire and has made Cochin his haven. Venkatesh Iyer (Prithviraj) is a lecturer in Physics by the day, and a burglar who breaks into Automatic Teller Machines of the IBI bank by night. Having lost faith in ACP Harris (Jayasurya) the bank brings in Private investigator Alexander Felix (Narein) to nab the thief.

I would have been content if the spirit of adventure that characterizes all Robinhood stories had been kept in tact in the film as well. That is sadly not the case here. It does aim straight at the adrenaline glands, but so often misses its mark and lands right on your face instead.

I would tell you why. Precisely because the whole of the first hour of this movie has Venky walking in and out of ATM counters, inserting cards and making away with the loot. I would understand if it were done a couple of times, but since it happens every night, its only natural that you turn over and go to sleep, when the man goes about his business on his super mobike, with the hood and glasses in tact.

Then, the officer makes the discovery. There are these electro magnetic waves you see, around ATM counters, that our whiz kid R-hood manipulates to get the pin numbers, using a receptor that suspiciously looks like a Playschool kit. And he conveniently inserts mobile recharge coupons into the ATMs and robs the bank. That's wonderful really, except that better attempts have been made at story telling.

Apparently, the hero could be no greedy coin gulper. There is a sad story lurking somewhere in the past. It certainly isn't the film's fault if you had guessed it ten miles off.
Running for almost two hours and forty five minutes, it is mostly uneventful and falls apart like a pack of cards caught in the mildest breeze.

There is simply no end to the number of manholes that have been left uncovered on this scriptway. It would have been better if it provided senseless entrainment at least, even as it questions our intelligence. As if it isn't enough to have some fantastic theory shoved down our throats that makes robbing ATMs seem as simple as snapping your fingers, the film often looks like it's making fun of itself.

The only one who gets to score in this film is Prithvi. Apart from the mobile recharge coupon, that is. He holds his ground despite being cast in the title role in a film, that has put aside all semblance of logic. He looks the hi-fi robber and acts it as well.

How can it be that so many actors are simultaneously miscast in a film? Narein heads the lot, and is awkwardly clumsy when it comes to playing the flirtatious officer. All that skirt-chasing seems as ill-fitting to him as a right foot in the left shoe. He's much better towards the end though, when he turns sober. Jayasurya is well off the mark as well; he looks crisp and well toned, but rarely gets into the character apart from the twitched eyebrow and a contorted face. It's a relief that he has nothing much to do here. Bhavana is around attempting an image makeover of sorts, and what was Samvrutha doing in that cameo that was probably the most irritating since cameos were discovered?

Fake situations, stiff dialogue and an unconvincing premise make Joshey's Robinhood the Pauper of Thieves. Short of action and short of sense, it loots you of your money and time.

RobinHood -- Doesnt impress much -- Review

Joshiys Robinhood is a movie with a thief as the central character and as the name suggests his thefts are for justified by some incidents of his past life.Having called him a thief,i should admit that he is more than that.Having see many theif based movies Roibn hood is different in the sense that its more more of a high tech robbery with some of the scenes trying to explain us the possiility of the roery happening.Venkat (Prithviraj) is a tutor in an entrance coaching centre more the morning hours while the night sees him busy robbing the ATM bracnhes of a particular bank in Kochi.

The bank Director Mr Menon(Biju Menon) isnt quite amused by the below average computer educated police investigation(headed by Jayasuryaas character) appoints aprivate detective in the form of Narien.Prithvi Narein and bhavana (anks correspondant in the case)happen to stay on the same flat and ends up being good friends.without exposing their inner characters its a cat and mouse game till interval. The first half also sees Sachi Sethu(Scripters)trying to explain the scientific side of how the 16 digit secret numer could possibly be sniffed.Though the possibility of such a device both on technical-infrastructure grounds might not impress the technocrats might be enough to get the common cinegoers attention.Though the first half did not bore much there wasnt much intense griping scenes ,or were there any proper comedy track to arouse some response among the audience.

The second half of the movie as can be guessed reveals the past of the robber(as seen many a times in cinemas he too is from a brahmin background).More twists follow at the climax and it ends wihtout arousing the viewers much ....

The main draw back was that despite being a multistarrer the movie rarely has scenes for the audiece to clap for(except for intros).None of the songs were impressive to the ears despite being glitzy.Joshiy has tried to make Roihood as racy as possile though it lacks some engrossig scenes.Main leads including Narein,Prithvi,Bhavana has has done their part well though their characters are more based on style than substance.Samvrutha plays a minor role just to create some confusion.Salimkumar is wasted.bGM by Raajmani is perfect enough for a movie like this.Sachi Sethu deserves credit in having tried to convince the audience on the scientific side of things too.(Despite these efforts one would feel why is it that the police dont try the cameras to track everyone that enters the ATM instead of turning on the camera only when a card is inserted? This would have allowed the thief to mask the camera only after entering the ATM) other than this they have failed to pack up the movie with thrills and wits that could have made it more acceptable.

My Verdict :Nothing Special.......

Robinhood Review - Criticzone.blogspot.com

Review
Youthful energy has always been captivating and energizing and when it happens in Malluwood, where it has been always lacking in the recent years, it can be refreshing as well.
Joshiy's new movie 'Robinnhood' (thats how it spells in the title) tries to ride the wave of youth on the back of an interesting ATM Robbery scam. 'Robinnhood' tries to be what you call in quintessential terms a 'youthful time pass flick' and mix high tech robbery to it. The percentage to which the movie has succeeded, lies in the territory of being debatable.

Youth Trio Gone Sour
During the first 15-20 minutes of 'Robinnhood', you feel that its almost like the 3 pronged clash that you famously loved in Joshiy's last 20-20. And it makes you feel happy because Joshiy is quite good at that and these youthful stars were missing anyways from the previous version. But sadly it doesn't last for long. Jayasurya is sidelined in a role which is a police officer who comes and goes once in a while. Its not a worthwhile role for him. The movie is a two way story between Prithviraj and Naren for most parts. We can safely say that 'Jayasurya is wasted' in this role.
The movie cannot boast of one decisive superlative lead actor performance. Prithviraj is good and has amazing screen presence. He is the hero of the movie but he doesn't run away with it as in 'Puthiya Mugham'.Naren is having almost an equal footing as Prithviraj puts in a unexpectedly competent performance but he neither is the clincher performance as well. They both relish amidst each other and as longs as they are chasing each other, the movie interests you.

A Good First Half
'Robinnhood' promises a lot in the first half. Its a logically well explained ATM Robbery story with technology part of it shown beautifully. Joshiy needs pat on the back for the depiction of the technical robbery. Until the interval, Prithviraj and Naren are hunting for each other and the movie keeps you glued to your seats. The interval point though not a high point is also fine.

Average Second Half

As the movie unfurls after the interval, things start to go downhill. The script takes the predictable route to justify the robbery done by the protagonist, with a much clichéd 'PAST' episode. And soon, twists become predictable. Movie completely moves in to its lowest points when Naren no longer hunts Prithviraj but starts saving him for the 'friendship'. So, it turns in to the usual one villain bashing end but the climax episode is cleverly planned and shown on screen, to say the least.

The Saviour
There is only one Saviour for 'Robinnhood' and thats undoubtedly Joshiy. He keeps you hooked for at least 70% of the movie and needs applause for the same. The way he has portrayed the technical portions of the robbery needs praise. The two character play and behind the back hunt between Prithviraj and Naren also needs applause. To be a veteran and yet to be up to date with a techno savvy movie, deserves kudos.

Music - The Downer

But how you would wish that Joshiy had some better music sense. From the moment you see 'M.Jayachandran' for the music credits in the opening, you smell foul. In such a hep youthful theme that is the last thing you would want to do. And that is what exactly happens. None of the 3 tracks are even average. The Caribbean Salsa party song (Sa Mosa) is the worst you would have heard of that kind.
Deepak Dev showed you how good music can lift an average movie with 'Puthiya Mugham'. Watch 'Robinnhood' to understand the reverse. There is not even a decent signature tune for the 'Prince of Thieves'. Youthful hep techno movie with no good music, now thats what you call a 'downer'!

Of the rest of the cast, Bhavana is for eye candy. Samvratha does the second heroine as usual. Biju Menon is his usual self. Jayasurya would have been fine not doing this one.

To Sum it all up, 'Robinnhood' has an impressive first half and an average second half. As long as the hunt lasts, its interesting but soon the 'justification from the past' arrives in the most clichéd set up.Climax is well arranged.

Verdict - 3.25 / 5 as a RATING
'ABOVE AVERAGE ENTERTAINER' as an opinion

Robin Hood Review - Zonkerala.com

Robin Hood is a regular film with enough twists, glitz, glamour, songs and fights from the commercial big gun Joshi. It’s astonishing that this man is so updated that he has clasp over the pulsating rhythm of youth.

Venkitesh Iyer (Prithviraj) is a tutor at an engineering coaching centre who is also an ATM robber who attacks only IBI Bank. Abirami (Samvritha) one of his student has crush on him which later proves to have no relevance in the film. Alexander Felix (Narien) gets assigned as private eye for the Bank to find the modus operandi of loot and to explain a defense mechanism to prevent the robbery. Bhavana comes as the system head for the bank. She stays with Narien in Bank’s guest house.

How Alexander Felix tries to catch the robber and what happens there after is what the Robinhood is about.

Biju Menon gives a refreshing performance as the bad guy. Jayasurya as ACP is ok and doesn’t have a big role. Though the film doesn’t have concrete believability it can be left aside as this is a commercial flick and it is successful in that front.

The story writers have tailored script to create successful flick. Robinhood is a story of intrigue, suspense, money, revenge told with enough romantic backup. This mouse and cat story may attribute influence to Dhoom series films.

Prithviraj is himself while Narien scores as an actor portraying the character of cool investigator. Samvritha’s role is forgettable and Bhavana is ok.

Cinematography by Shaji and editing by Ranjan Abraham is apt for the flick.
Joshiy the director for all ages proves again. As many of his successful films this film too lacks a heart. That vacuum is filled with business interest. The packaging attracts youth.

Songs are created attractively. Title graphics are ok.

Anantha Vision, the Midas in the block will generate profit from this flick too.
Not a bad flick you can watch, don’t expect anything unusual.

Rating : 2.75 / 5 (Hit)
