Noted Malayalam-Tamil actor Prithviraj recently held a press meet at Thiruvananthapuram press club to share details of his upcoming Malayalam film Veettilekkulla Vazhi, being directed by Dr. Biju. He said Veettilekkulla Vazhi is a cosmopolitan film with possibilities to cater to audiences outside Kerala also.
"The biggest limitation of Malayalam cinema today is that our films are not cosmopolitan as they seldom cater to an audience outside Kerala. The only way we can overcome our language barrier is by making our films more cosmopolitan, by inculcating other cultures and languages and different themes. Veettilekkulla Vazhi is such a venture," he said.
Prithviraj dons the role of a doctor at a jail hospital in Delhi who embarks on a journey to find the father of a child terrorist who dies at the jail hospital. Prithviraj said that from a technical point of view, Veettilekkulla Vazhi would be the first Malayalam film to be shot entirely in Panavision format and using sync sound throughout.
Director Biju said the film is to be shot in six states, including Kashmir, New Delhi, and Rajasthan. The idea for the film actually originated from a newspaper report that extremist organisations like the Indian Mujahideen recruit hundreds of people from Kerala.
"However, we are not trying to take any stand on extremism through this film. It is left to the audience to make their own opinions about what they see in the film," he added. Actor Indrajit dons the role of a Tamil extremist in the film, expected to be released by June or July next year. Producer B.C. Joshi and cinematographer M.J. Radhakrishnan were also present at the meet.
