Indian Rupee wins National Award

Ace director Ranjith has added another feather to his cap by bagging this year's National Award for Best Feature Film in Malayalam for Indian Rupee.

The elated director, who is winning his second National Award after Thirakatha, attributes the win to the content of the film, which is a satirical dig on today's youth who attempt to make quick money. "I am sure it was judged based on the subject that is socially relevant," he points out, thanking the film's producers Prithviraj, Shaji Natesan and Santhosh Sivan for having the confidence in the content.

"Above everything, it was a financially profitable film that Kerala audience appreciated," he says, stating that it's proof enough that a commercially-viable movie can also clinch top honours.
