First of all, the reason why I have used different spellings for the same name in the heading of this article is because surfers are searching the internet about the late Malayalam lyricist and Screen play writer with both the spellings. His actual name is Gireesh but we did not want surfers who are searching with the other name to miss out on the sad news.
The noted Malayalam lyricist and Screen play writer is no more. Gireesh, who served as a governing council member of the Indian Performance Rights Society (IPRS), died at a private hospital on Wednesday Feb 10, 2010 at the age of 48.
Kamal who is a famous Malayalam film director who has used many of Girirsh’s lyrics in his movies said “I am at a loss to say anything. He used to say that he kept a separate pen to write for my films.”
Well known singer M.G. Sreekumar, who has sung innumerous songs which had Gireesh’s lyrics in them had no words to describe the tragic loss. Before his untimely death, Gireesh had written more than 1,700 songs in over 300 Malayalam films.
