Film Review: Viji Thampi's Veluthambi Dalava (2010, Malayalam)

Continuing the success of Malayalam movies based on historical characters and events, acclaimed director Viji Thampi is working on Veluthambi Dalava - a cinema adaptation from the life of Velayudhan Chempakaraman Thampi (1765 - 1809), the Dalawa (Prime Minister) of the Indian kingdom of Travancore between 1802 and 1809) during the reign of Maharajah Bala Rama Varma Kulasekhara Perumal. Velayudhan is regarded as one of the first Indian freedom fighters who rebelled against British occupation forces in the Indian subcontinent.

The filmn is produced by Renjith Rajaputra. The title role of Velayudhan Chempakaraman Thampi will be played by Malayalam actor Prithviraj, whose debut in Malayalam cinema was with Nandanam (2002) and a long string of successful films inlcuding Swapnakoodu, Ananthabhadram, Chocolate, Vaasthavam, Classmates, Thirakkatha, Thalappavu, Puthiya Mukham, and Robinhood. Prithviraj's Tamil films include Kana Kandaen, Parijatham and Mozhi etc. Prithviraj's Telugu Movie Police Police is also on the floors.
