Kerala Box Office (August 26 - September 27)

In the last month, there have been nearly a dozen releases. Ramzan releases have brought some cheer to the industry as Loud Speaker, Duplicate and Robinhood have taken decent openings.

Prithvirajs Joshy directed Robinhood has taken a fantastic opening in nearly 70 screens across Kerala, though it carries mixed reports. It is the clear number one and has netted Rs 4.31 lakh in its first four days at Padma Theatre (Ernakulam), a 100 per cent opening! How big it will turn out to be will depend on whether it will be able to hold on in the coming days.

At number two is the Jayaraj directed Loud Speaker, starring Mammootty, which, after a slow start, has picked up. Word of mouth on the film is encouraging. At Shenoys Theatre (Ernakulam), the film has netted Rs 8.39 lakhs in its first 10 days of its release, which is 82 per cent of the capacity.

In third position is the Kamal Hassan-Mohanlal thriller Unnaipol Oruvan, which was initially released in only 20 screens in Kerala. It was a big mistake because by the second week, the Malayalam releases blocked all theatres in other centres.

In fourth position is Suraj Venjaranmoodus debut film as hero Duplicate. Made on a shoestring budget, it is doing well. In fifth position is last months number one, Puthiya Mugham, which is steady in B and C.
