Is Anurag Kashyap remaking ‘Ek Duje Ke Liye’?

Anurag’s next as a producer is a North-South love story

After remaking Dilip Kumar’s Devdas as Dev.D, buzz is that filmmaker Anurag Kashyap is all set to produce the remake of the Kamal Haasan-Rati Agnihotri starrer Ek Duje Ke Liye. The film is yet untitled but will be directed by newbie director Sachin Kundalkar. It is said that Rani Mukerji will be seen in an all-new avatar in this film and has been paired opposite Prithviraj (who played Aishwarya Rai Bachchan’s husband in the Tamil version of Raavan).

Seems that after the success of No One Killed Jessica, Rani is eager to be a part of the Kashyap camp which is known for experimental and non-frivolous cinema. Work has already started on the music of this film and as expected Amit Trivedi and Amitabh Bhattacharya are doing the honours.

It is still not clear if Kashyap has officially bought the remake rights of this north-south love story. After Vikramaditya Motwane and Bejoy Nambiar, Sachin Kundalkar is the third protégé of Kashyap to make his Bollywood debut. As much as we appreciate new talent coming into the mainstream, we still expect something more hatke from the Kashyap camp.

So lets hope that Kashyap manages to turn this been-there-done-that script on its head and give us a contemporary take on love, just like he did with Dev.D. We wonder if Kashyap’s interest in this subject was fuelled by Vishal Bhardwaj’s announcement to make a film based on Chetan Bhagat’s book – 2 States, which has been stalled for now.
