A Grand Audio Launch - Tamil Version of Urumi in Chennai

The audio launch of the Tamil dubbed version of August Cinema’s Urumi was a glittering and grand affair at the Sathyam cinemas this morning.

The film is directed by Santhosh Sivan who has also done the camerawork. The movie has already released in Malyalam earlier and will be out in Tamil in December.

It was a walk down memory lane with Arvind Swamy arriving to greet his mentor Mani Ratnam, while Vijay, AR Murgadoss, Vairamuthu, Bharath, SJ Suryah and others also graced the dais. The audio was launched by Vijay and received by Vairamuthu who has done the lyrics in Tamil.

Three songs and a trailer were screened, with Mani Ratnam, AR Murgadoss and SJ Suryah releasing each song before it was screened. The film’s hero Prithiviraj was not present nor were any of the other actors like Arya, Prabhu Deva, Nithya Menen, Tabu, Vidya Balan and Genelia. Mallika Sukumaran, mom of Prithviraj and co producer of the film said that due to the strike in the Kerala film industry, Prithvi had got special permission to complete the shoot of Masters with Sasikumar and hence could not be present for the function, a fact that he regretted.

All the dignitaries praised Sivan immensely while Mani said, “He is nothing short of a magician. He has more than fifteen ideas up his sleeve at any time and many more hidden away. He takes an interest in every aspect of a film. I saw the Malayalam Urumi and I think its amazing how he has made such a great film in such a small budget.”

Deepak Dev, who was present, has composed the music. Vairamuthu praised Sivan saying, “He has a very different perspective of cinema and his camera captures his viewpoint which is vastly different from the common mans. Even the skin tones of the actors on screen is captured differently by him.”

Arvind Swamy said, “Sivan taught me a lot about cinema, lighting and angles when I was new and worked with him. I realized what a genius he is and I am sure he has worked the same magic with his directorial venture too.”

A live performance of one song was also staged by Swetha Mohan and Haricharan. Vijay was happy that he would be getting to work with Sivan in his upcoming film directed by AR Murgadoss where Sivan is doing the camerawork.
