Thirakkatha wins Padmarajan award


Renowned scenarist-director Ranjith’s Prithviraj starrer Thirakkatha has been selected for the Padmarajan awards 2008, instituted by the Padmarajan Memorial Trust in memory of Malayalam's highly-celebrated film genius Padmarajan. K.R. Meera’s short story 'Guillotine', published in the Mathrubhumi weekly last year, won the award for the best short story.

The award comprises a cash prize of Rs. 10,000 and a citation. The best director will get a purse of Rs. 20,000 and a citation, while the award for the best screenplay has a cash prize of Rs. 10,000 and a citation. The awards will be presented at a function to be held at the Tagore Theatre, Thiruvananthapuram on May 23.

The jury for the cinema award had K.G. George as chairman and Manarcaud Mathew and Gandhimathi Balan as members, while the jury for the short story award consisted of S.V. Venugopan Nair, Chandramathi and B. Babu Prasad.
