For the first time in over a decade, there will be no major Malayalam releases for Onam 2009.
Onam which falls on September 2, is falling in the middle of Noyambu (Fasting period) season, starting on August 20 to September 20. During Noyambu season traditionally Malayalam films are not released, due to poor collections.
So the biggies have all shifted their release to Friday, September 18, as Ramzan will be falling on Sep 19/20 in Kerala.
Among the biggies are Mammootty�s epic magnum opus Pazhassi Raja, directed by Hariharan. Mohanlal�s untitled Roshan Andrews film for producer Antony Perumbavoor, Dileep�s Bodyguard directed by Siddique and Prithviraj�s Robin Hood, directed by Joshy.
